Carleen trained as a clinical psychologist following working within adult mental health and the charity sector for 6 years. Helping and empowering others to overcome psychological difficulties, particularly those who lived through a difficult early life or trauma, were key aspects in driving and inspiring Carleen to train in Clinical Psychology. NHS work experience across ten years has included research and supporting clients across the lifespan. This included working with clients who experienced severe and enduring mental health problems, anxiety, depression, PTSD, dementia, and acquired brain injuries.
Carleen continues to work in the NHS within the specialism of stroke and neuropsychology. As a chartered clinical psychologist, Carleen has developed expertise in integrative therapeutic work using evidence based approaches. This includes cognitive behavioural therapy, solution focused therapy, narrative therapy and systemic and psychodynamic ideas.
Carleen’s approach to therapy is empathically person centred and aims to help clients understand difficulties in the context of experiences across life, relationships, ideas about self and roles. Another important aspect of Carleen’s approach is to explore and understand difficulties as external to ourselves. This can help empower us to act and move forward in a way which is meaningful and valuable, despite the challenges experienced.
